The Professor Returns to the Chess Board

David Kistler needs just one more win

David Kistler awaits his opponents move at the Jefferson County Championship Tournament in Watertown.

Dr. David Kistler appears to have rediscovered his passion for tournament chess. The former defending county champion swept through the 2017 Jefferson County Championship Tournament field by scoring 3-0 to win his eighth County Championship on October 21st. Dr. Kistler had taken a short sabbatical from chess after his 2015 Watertown Club Championship. The college professor decided to return to playing at the club this past August.

Dr. Kastler’s tournament win paired with his score of +3-1=1 in the yet to be completed Watertown Chess Club Fall Classic Tournament leaves him one win behind fourth place standing Steve Wood. A win by Dr. Kistler will secure him the fourth seed, however, a win or draw by Mr. Wood will qualify Mr. Wood as the fourth seed of 2017 Watertown Chess Club Championship.

The four player, two round club championship matches are scheduled to begin November 7th through December 19th. Concurrently the club will hold the annual Holiday Invitational Tournament which pairs club members against local non-members from the region.
